Today’s post by Emily Singer (www.dailykos.com/...) is the great news that I’ve been waiting for since Mango Mussolini illegally let Muskrat and his Gen Z cyber crooks hack into the US Treasury database using a portable server that may have contained viruses or other malware.
We have no reliable information on whether or not the young cyber crooks succeeded. Nevertheless, I am pleased that the passengers and crew of hijacked America Flight 1776 are finally rushing the cockpit.
The legislation that House and Senate Dems plan to introduce to ban non-vetted access to US Treasury data should be expanded to bar similar unauthorized access to US Census data. Another story on today’s DK page by WireBender73 (www.dailykos.com/...) reported that Muskrat may be helping ICE to gain unconstitutional access to Census information that could be used to track and detain immigrant residents for later deportation. You may also recall that the first tRump administration unsuccessfully attempted to get a citizenship question included on the short-form 2020 US Census questionnaire sent to all US households. Its apparent intent was to use Census data to aid in its voter suppression activities preceding the 2020 presidential election.
Congressional Dems should also introduce legislation that bans the use of Guantanamo Bay or any other offshore or foreign prison to warehouse ICE-detained immigrants. The first tRump administration demonstrated intentional cruelty and sloppiness in keeping track of ICE-detained immigrants, especially the separation of detained children from their parents.
Our federal government has suffered a perfect storm of oligarch-backed hacking into its critical databases and server infrastructure. These incidents highlight the need for a future Democratic Congress and POTUS to modernize and fortify all federal IT systems against cyberattacks from foreign and domestic bad actors.
Cybersecurity professionals in and out of the federal government have been sounding out the need for effective federal cybersecurity since the 1970s (decades before the term “cybersecurity” was coined in 1989). The 1983 movie “War Games” (which I watched and enjoyed at the time) was yet another warning of the potential threat of cyberattacks on federal IT systems. The Computer Security Act of 1987 directed the federal government to develop a broad cybersecurity plan for its IT systems, but agency compliance has been uneven at best.
Final note to congressional Dems: Mango Mussolini’s role in Muskrat’s cyber-attack must be treated as an impeachable offense and added to what should be a growing list of potential articles of impeachment. Muskrat and his chief cyber crook crony Marko Elez (www.dailykos.com/...) must be prosecuted for committing cybercrimes against the US government. This rogue President and his tech bro cronies won’t be impeached or prosecuted during this Congress. That shouldn’t stop the Dems from waging a relentless social media podcast war against all GQP congress critters, incumbents and candidates alike, in the 2026 mid-term elections.
As always, do not obey tyranny in advance.
