Pacific Northwest
So far our weather this winter has been mild. It hasn’t gone below 27°F and our only snow — just a dusting — has been during these past few days. For the sake of the birdies and my garden, it’s a nice change from the past few winters with extreme cold snaps. It also means I can be out walking without worrying about slipping and falling.
Monday was sunny. A few scenes from that day:
Patch of moss and old downed wood, with accents of snow (white) and madrona bark (red)
A leaking downspout makes drippy icicles
Not much snow on the driftwood. Any snow on the beach was me.ted by the high tide.
Song sparrow on a driftwood log. They are everywhere.
Lichens: most likely the orange is Xanthoria and the grey-green Usnea
Fox sparrow
Tuesday was overcast. The snow from Sunday night had mostly sublimated. In the yard:
The local winter mixed flock of turkeys come by every morning for breakfast.
Golden-crowned sparrows are quiet at this time of year. By next month they’ll start singing before they migrate north.
In the neighborhood:
Mossy snag had about 20 juncos foraging around it in the snow.
A couple of the juncos, which are very camouflaged in a still photo.
One of our winter robins
By the time I came in from my walk in the afternoon it was starting to snow lightly again.
Dormant deck garden. Photo taken through glass door. The green reflection is….
…. my veggie starts. Planted seeds mid January. Spring is coming.
❄️
Still chilly today in the Pacific Northwest islands. Light breeze out of the north. Snowed a bit overnight. This morning:
