“There's the boy!” I cried, happy to see him. I was lying on my back, warm under the blankets as Freddie walked up my body to settle on my chest. “Those little paws hurt in some places,” I grumbled. He ignored me.
“This is my favorite time of day,” I told him, stroking his fur. His face was about six inches from mine and he purred and slow blinked down at me. “I love cuddling with you like this.”
He stretched his neck out and touched my nose with his. “Good,” he agreed.
It occurred to me that I should try to capture this moment so I could look at it later and remember.
A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦
- Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.
- Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.
Carefully, I slid my hand across the sheets near my head until I found my phone. I picked it up and unlocked it.
Freddie stiffened.
“No,” I crooned. “Everything is fine.”
He relaxed again.
“Good boy,” I said.
He purred louder.
I opened the photo app and maneuvered my phone so it was between my face and his.
He immediately turned his head.
"Oh, that’s a nice picture,” I said. “But it’s not what I wanted.”
“Pet me,” he demanded.
“Right,” I said, using my free hand to do just that.
“Like that,” he purred.
“Such a good boy,” I said, rubbing the fur between his ears. He closed his eyes in contentment.
I lifted the phone again with my other hand and his eyes reopened. “What are you doing?” he asked.
“Trying to get a nice picture,” I said. “I want to remember us like this.”
“I don’t know what that means,” he said. “Pet me.”
“Freddie!” I said, trying to get him to look straight at the phone. "Freddie, look!”
He looked and tried to hit the button to take the photo with my thumb, but I fumbled it.
“Shoot!” I said, catching it. It looked like my thumb had hit the button after all, but it wasn’t what I wanted. “Okay, we can still do it.”
“What are you doing with that?” he wondered, stretching his neck out to smell the phone.
“Wait, back up,” I said. “Just act natural!”
“I always act natural,” he said, bewildered.
I fumbled the phone again, but my finger brushed the button.
“Oh, I got my finger in that one,” I said, chuckling. “Let’s try again!”
“I’m confused,” Freddie said.
"Are you going to pet me?” he demanded. “Because I can just leave.”
“Don’t leave yet!” I said, trying to capture his face in the phone screen. “Just let me — “
I dropped my phone on my face.
“Ow!” I said, rubbing my nose.
“Human!”
“Don’t move!”
“I think this is the best we’re going to get,” I told him, showing him the picture. “I didn’t expect this to be so hard.”
“That’s me?” he asked.
“Sure is!”
“I’m so handsome!” he said.
“You really are,” I agreed.
He stood and stretched, somehow becoming heavier balanced on four small paws. “Freddie, ow,” I said.
“Did you drop your thing again?” he asked on a yawn.
“No,” I said, gritting my teeth.
“That’s good,” he said, finally climbing off me.
I sighed in relief.
“You’re always looking at that thing,” he said, watching me from his spot on the mattress next to my hip.
“I know,” I said. “But there are lots of good pictures of you on here. I like to look at you.”
He rolled his eyes. “I’m right here,” he said.
I put my phone down. “You know what? You’re right!” I reached out and wrapped my arm around him, then pulled him to me.
“Not like that,” he growled.
Happy Caturday, Peeps! Freddie is, of course, very photogenic, but he is stuck with a human who is a terrible photographer!
