It’s not as disturbing as elimination of foreign aid, suspension of medical research, or the compromise of all of our banking details. But it is very disturbing as a measure of the war on American culture.
Donald Trump has named himself the new chairman of the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees. He intends to fire at least some of existing trustees and will be dictating future programming personally. He intends to implement his vision of a “golden age” in Arts and Culture. Yes, really.
I haven’t quite figured out what constitutes a golden age, but that golden toilet comes to mind. Perhaps performing arts that praise the values of the only member of the audience that matters. Something so tacky we just can’t even imagine it now. Good luck getting contributions, attendees, and performers.
His objections seem to have something to do with drag performers. Somehow, that topic is high on his list. This from a man who wears more makeup, poorly, than any drag artist I’ve ever seen.
The community of arts in our country is stronger than this man. We need to show it. Attend your local independent theaters. Support the actors and the venues with your contributions.
It’s an insult to have JFK’s name on this venue now. This will be MAGA Theater, at least for a while.
