I am almost a read only and comment only Kos user but I just had to write about what I viewed on Friday. I hope this post works OK because I’m a newbie at it.
I watched the Forbes coverage on YouTube of the Democratic Congressional members blocked from entering the Department of Education.
It was interesting to watch and I looked for more coverage and found a critique on YouTube from The Bulwark. The Bulwark coverage and analysis was also good.
But what struck me most about these two offerings was the contrast between the comments from one video to the other.
I was dumbstruck because most of the comments on The Bulwark were the same kind of thing I was thinking. Critical of the overreach, thanking Maxine, decrying the state of our government and “Watergate in broad daylight”.
But the comments on the Forbes coverage were mocking Rep. Maxine Waters and all the others. Mocking, saying it’s “glorious”, saying the guard should get a medal, saying "see how the Dems really treat working people”, the Dems are all whiners, etc.
I could go on and on but I urge you to read the comments for yourself.
(I knew there were people out there like this but I am not a FB or Xwitter user and don't see much of this stuff or read comments, I guess that is why I was surprised.)
The main takeaway for me was, how do the Dems reach these people? I get what they are saying but I think we really have to make the Democratic message clearer, better defined and more attractive. I have been thinking about this a lot because I have retired after working since the ‘60’s. Dems are for the working people and care about the safety net for all. That is how I have always viewed it. I am hoping our new head of the DNC will clarify and focus the message.
