The “libertarian” “personal freedom” Washington Post does not want its readers to know how much popular opposition exists in Western democracies to Trump’s declaration of economic war against America’s former allies, his destruction of the NATO alliance and Trump’s capitulation to Putin. It doesn’t want its readers to know that many American jobs will be lost as a result of Trump’s policies.
Post reporters either self-censor or are directly censored by Bezos or his Murdoch publisher Lewis. There were a few columnists (and cartoonist Ann Telnaes) who were previously allowed to criticize Trump, but the list is getting shorter and shorter. Opinion editor David Shipley, Jennifer Rubin, Robert Kagan, Michele Norris, editor Sally Buzbee, and Ruth Marcus are longtime Post columnists or editors who have quit because of Bezos censorship. Ashley Parker, Josh Dawsey, Philip Rucker, Matea Gold, Jackie Alemany, Michael Scherer and Will Sommer are journalists who have left the Post. apnews.com/… (I cite AP even though it could be accused of being anti-Trump news source (excluded from White House Press conferences) because it calls the Gulf of Mexico “the Gulf of Mexico.”
A Majority of the German, French, and British public consider Trump a dictator and a Threat to the Peace and Security of Europe
A majority of Germans, French and British consider Trump a dictator, but the Washington Post does not want you to know that:
More than half of the French, Germans , and Britons consider Donald Trump a “dictator”, according to a poll by the think tank Destin Commun, www.brusselstimes.com/...
70 to 80 percent of Germans, British, French, and Spanish believe that Trump is a very big or fairly big threat to the peace and security of Europe. www.theguardian.com/… In Italy “only” 58% of the population consider him a threat to peace. Trump has a bad image by 80% with the French public, only slightly lower than his partner Putin — 86%. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/…
The People of Western Europe no longer believe that the US is their Ally
73% of the French public no longer believe that the US is an ally of France. www.connexionfrance.com/… In Britain less than half of the public believes that the US is an ally in one poll and in another a bare majority called the US an ally, but only a third thought the US was both a friend and an ally. www.dw.com/... www.express.co.uk/... In Germany only 1 in 6 voters considered the US a reliable ally which can be trusted. 75% of German voters do not believe that the US will uphold its NATO obligation to defend members:
This month only one in six voters described the US as a partner who Germany can trust. Three quarters believe that NATO members cannot currently rely on the United States for protection.
The Germans polled are not skeptical of NATO itself: 84% said that the North Atlantic defense alliance is important for securing peace in Europe. Nevertheless, there is growing support for greater European independence. One in two said they favor establishing a European military alliance. www.dw.com/...
I could not find Post stories on polling in Britain, Germany, and France on whether America is an ally. www.washingtonpost.com/… David Ignatius, a Post opinion columnist, was allowed to comment on this unpopularity in democratic countries. It has long been said that the Wall Street Journal engages in honest reporting, but its editorials and columnists are right wing ideologues. Bezos turns that model on its head, opinion columnists are allowed to report facts which reporters won’t or can’t. Because they are “opinion” pieces, facts unfavorable to Trump have less potency and likely fewer readers.
A Majority of the Public in Western Europe have an Unfavorable Image of the United States since Trump was elected
Opinion towards the US is least positive in Denmark, at 20%, with fellow Scandinavians in Sweden coming next on 29%. Only around a third of people in Germany (32%), France (34%) and the UK (37%) have a favourable view of the US now. yougov.co.uk/...
For Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and Italy these are the lowest favorability ratings since YouGov began tracking this question in 2016. yougov.co.uk/...
Loss of American Jobs caused by hostility to America caused by hostility to Trump
The destruction of the American brand has economic consequences which most Trump voters are too ignorant to understand or just don’t care. American “soft power” is near zero under Trump except in fascist countries like Russia, Belarus, and Hungary. Bezos, Musk, Thiel, and Adelson know about this economic harm to Americans, but they figure that Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires will allow them to get richer while they are firing their workers because of loss of demand for American products.
The boycott American products movement is well advanced in Canada and is growing in many other countries. The boycott American products movement in Western Democracies has been well covered in Europe, Canada, and Australia. www.dailymail.co.uk/... www.theguardian.com/... www.bbc.com/... www.lemonde.fr/…www.rfi.fr/... The largest Danish supermarket chain is labelling European products so shoppers can avoid buying American. In Sweden, a Facebook group boycotting American products has grown to 70,000 members. Trump sycophant Washington Post reporters have largely avoided this subject. Reporters at the Post know writing anything unfavorable to Trump is a liability at the Bezos Post.
One of the earliest indicators of economic losses from Trump’s policies is the travel business because it is easy to track inbound flights to the US and travel bookings. BBC and travel magazines reports that bookings to the US from Canada have declined by as much as 40%. www.bbc.com/... www.travelweekly.com/... The fact that travel to the US is down significantly, but overall travel has not declined or increased is strong evidence that factors such as weakness in the Canadian dollar are not driving decreased Canadian travel to America. Forbes reports that the estimated loss of 4 billion dollars in tourist dollars from Canadians in 2025 jeopardizes 140,000 American jobs. www.forbes.com/... This decline in tourism also occurred in the first Trump administration. so lack of coverage is not due to ignorance by Post writers. www.forbes.com/... A search for “Canadian tourists to US decline February March 2025” did not turn up a story in the Post. www.washingtonpost.com/… but there were a number of stories about loss of jobs in 2017, before Bezos decided to go full Murdoch subservience with Murdoch/Post publisher Lewis.
In addition to consumer boycott of American products, European NATO members have decided that since the US is no longer a reliable ally European countries must develop their own military hardware and software. President of the European Commission Von der Leyen stated that 150 billion dollars of new weapons in Europe will come from Europe. The Financial Times, published in the UK, has reported that American farmers realize that Trump’s tariff wars will result in other countries not buying American commodities.
Farmers expressed particular concern about the impact of retaliatory tariffs, saying they will restrict their access to some of the US’s most important export markets for staples including corn, soyabeans, red meat and pork, and urged Trump to negotiate a swift end to the conflict. This means fewer orders from American manufacturers and fewer American jobs. www.ft.com/...
French Senator Malhuret’s brilliant Speech Calling out Trump’s surrender to Putin and naming Trump a Traitor to America and American Democracy ignored by the Post
Daily Kos members, KeithDB, CathyM have posted diaries about center right French Senator Malhuret’s speech www.huffpost.com/... comparing Trump to Nero and calling Trump a traitor. www.dailykos.com/...www.dailykos.com/...
Claude Mahuret has given a speech comparable to Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech or American diplomat George Kennan writing in 1948 as “Mr. X” setting forth the strategy of containment which became a bedrock American policy. This important speech by Malhuret has been censored by the Washington Post reporters. A search of the Post site yielded one reference for March 11,2025 in the middle of a David Ignatius column. www.washingtonpost.com/... (Ignatius may be one of the few columnists not kept on a short leash by Bezos) There are at least 3 solid reasons why the Post has avoided citing or discussing Malhuret’s speech:
1. It offends Trump
2. It does not pull punches — “we are fighting a dictator supported by a traitor”
3. It offends Bezos because Malhuret establishes that subservience to Trump is complicity with Putin — Trump is offended by any criticism of his ally Putin so the Post “reporters” are limited by fears of losing their jobs.
Malhuret has written that Washington (which includes politicians and the Washington Post) are afraid to speak the truth about Trump, www.france24.com/… He has Bezos’s number and that of cowardly politicians and American news sources too corrupt or too cowardly to speak truth to power. Malhuret uses a word Post writers are not allowed to use about Trump “traitor.” A search on the Post website of the terms “ traitor, treason, Trump, 2024,2025 did not turn up stories in 2024-2025 in which anyone was quoted describing Trump as a traitor. www.washingtonpost.com/…
Washington has become the court of Nero: an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers, and a buffoon on ketamine tasked with purging the civil service.www.theatlantic.com/...
This is a tragedy for the free world, but it’s first and foremost a tragedy for the United States. [President Donald] Trump’s message is that being his ally serves no purpose, because he will not defend you, he will impose more tariffs on you than on his enemies, and he will threaten to seize your territories, while supporting the dictators who invade you.www.theatlantic.com/...
But in one month, Trump has done more harm to America than in the four years of his last presidency. We were at war with a dictator; now we are fighting against a dictator supported by a traitor.www.theatlantic.com/...
Never in history has a president of the United States surrendered to the enemy. Never has one supported an aggressor against an ally, issued so many illegal decrees, and sacked so many military leaders in one go. Never has one trampled on the American Constitution, while threatening to disregard judges who stand in his way, weaken countervailing powers, and take control of social media.www.theatlantic.com/...
On The Rest is Politics Podcast, Rory Stewart, a former Conservative UK cabinet member who was a candidate for Prime Minister, observed that if Trump is not a Russian asset, he is acting in the same way a Russian asset would act in almost every particular — ordering Speaker Johnson to withhold military aid to Ukraine for 6 months, vetoing a UN Declaration declaring Russia an aggressor, vetoing a G7 proposal to close loopholes allowing Russians more profit from the oil trade, withholding intelligence from Ukraine followed the next day by the largest Russian missile attack of the war, giving away negotiation points that that Ukraine has to give up territory, receive no American security agreement, and declare that Ukraine cannot join NATO before negotiations begin. Rory Stewart’s inquiry is forbidden territory for Washington Post reporters. How long would a WaPost writer remain employed if they wrote as accurately honestly as Stewart?
No doubt the reporters who have not left the Post likely reassure themselves that they are not Bezos’ flunkies when they “decide” not to print information unfavorable to Trump or criticism of Putin which Trump objects to. The reality is that French fascist, Putin supporter Marine Le Pen has criticized Trump’s stopping aid to Ukraine more harshly than Washington Post reporters. www.lefigaro.fr/...
"I consider the brutality of this decision (stopping US aid to Ukraine) to be reprehensible ," Marine Le Pen told Le Figaro on Tuesday . " It is very cruel for the Ukrainian soldiers engaged in a patriotic defense of their country ," she insisted. www.lefigaro.fr/...
Few in France believe that Le Pen is opposed to Putin, one of the major funders of the National Rally. However, public opinion in France supports Ukraine so for appearance sake National Rally abstained from a symbolic resolution supporting using frozen Russian oligarch money to repay Ukraine for Putin’s war crimes against Ukraine. Roughly 2/3rds of the French public favor using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.

The Washington Post betrays the very idea of free expression
Former Post editor Marty Baron called Bezos’ new policy (i.e. censoring points of view unfavorable to oligarchs)
“ betrayal of the very idea of free expression” that had left him “appalled” .www.theguardian.com/…
What is to be done?
United 24 is a news and donation site sponsored by the government of Ukraine u24.gov.ua/… You can choose to donate to supply weaponry or support the people of Ukraine. You can refuse to renew your subscription to the Washington Post and Amazon Prime to show Bezos that you support democracy even if he doesn’t.
