Good morning, Newdists! Glad to see you! Grab a cuppa and maybe a nosh and join us, do!
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
We do not post photos of snakes, creepy crawlies, or any photo depicting harm to humans or animals.
We, as a group, have declared a moratorium on photos of Trump. We’ve seen enough, heard enough. This is a Trump-Free Zone!
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
Yeah. THIS guy. Feckin’ troublemaker!
From WIKI:
The Romans did not number each day of a month from the first to the last day. Instead, they counted back from three fixed points of the month: the Nones (the 5th or 7th, eight days before the Ides), the Ides (the 13th for most months, but the 15th in March, May, July, and October), and the Kalends (1st of the following month).
Since it would be uncouth to mark the Ides on the 15, in case some sensitive soul should be offended (and I hate to pass up the chance!) we’ll just do a little history stuff today.
The month of Martius* was named for the god Mars, whose "birthday" was celebrated on the 1st, but the Ides of each month were sacred to Jupiter, the Romans' supreme deity.
*It cannot be proven, but I’m telling you...Martius is the Latin form of Marti.
Don’t believe me? dig up an ancient Roman and ask him! No, no!! Not THAT one….he’s still full of holes!
Does that make him the first Holey Roman Emperor??
One source from late antiquity also places the Mamuralia on the Ides of March. This observance, which has aspects of scapegoat or ancient Greek pharmakos ritual, involved beating an old man dressed in animal skins and perhaps driving him from the city.
Have I got the “old guy” for this gig!!!!
Mel Brooks….NSFW…..wonderful!!
What would you like to chat about this morning?
