It’s gotten lost in the noise, but there were some estimates recently that there might be an “interruption” in social security payments. Maybe as soon as the next 90 days.
Highly believable — Twitter had their share of technical problems after everyone was fired, and there is no reason to think the social security administration will fare any better.
I don’t live check to check, but I do rely on monthly social security checks for both me and my spouse. If they stop coming, I have at least an inconvenience and more likely a problem paying the mortgage and other regular bills,
Fortunately, I have good equity in my house and fairly good credit. So, just in case, I arranged for a home equity line of credit. No cost if I don’t use it, and a manageable interest rate if I do. If social security is interrupted it will get me through. If it is lost entirely, it will give me the immediate cash I need to sell and downsize.
