Losing Our Collective Minds

Someone has to say it…

It’s been revealed through all the current events that America has become a rather fucked up place. I used to think we were misguided, gullible maybe, but there was a desire to do the right thing. At one point in time that may have been mostly the case. My suspicions about a National Psychosis started during the whole Covid thing when people were willing to die rather than let go of their ideology.  

When Trump was elected the second time I saw the truth in full. There’s something pathological, a national sickness that has permeated our general society. From the whole evangelical, Christian Nationalist cult thing to our obsession with social media and staring at our phones for hours every day. The number of mass shootings. Our attachment to ridiculous conspiracies. I could go on, the list is long.

We are the only country where an Elon Musk and a Donald Trump would have any chance of getting into a position to do what they are doing.
I am not a psychologist. I don’t know how this fever of shallow ignorance  breaks. We are living in a shit show of our own making America. We are going to go through some things.
 

If we still can, when  enough people tire of it we may return to something more reasonable. After all, we Americans have lived under the illusion that the country had a noble purpose since its founding. Maybe that will be enough to propel us out of our circumstances. If not, empires come and go, eventually collapsing under their own weight.
