Well, I told myself I was going to stay out of this, but I just can’t stand it anymore.
What the actual Frick is going on with the Democratic Party? Even with Trump handing them one golden opportunity after another, they’re making about as much noise as a wet firecracker. Not only have the Dems been almost invisible since December, when they do speak out (with a few notable, yet individual exceptions) it has been muted and thoroughly ineffective.
Everyone has the right to ask themselves a pretty important question here — what is the darn strategy for the Democratic Party? To anyone outside the central party (and perhaps within it in as well), it seems as though there isn’t one. Let’s assume that this perception is reality — where should they start?
Step 1 is acknowledging the obvious and accepting the role that every Democratic voter is expecting the party to adopt.
Here’s where they start:
- We are not the “Resistance;” anyone opposing Trump is — you guessed it — the Opposition. We are the “Loyal Opposition;” loyal to the United States and its Constitution — not to the looney tune in the White House.
- The Loyal Opposition is supposed to voice Opposition, not keep it a secret.
- Forget Bi-partisanship, the Trump Administration made it clear before Jan 20th that they were never interested in that. It’s even clearer now. That means that the Opposition Party should not be looking for ways to cooperate or get out of the way of the MAGA GOP so that they can make themselves look bad, it means that Democrats have to register their Opposition to every awful plan and action — loudly.
- That communication can be organized — there’s this crazy thing called the Internet — set up a damn Youtube channel and give it a snappy name like “Just Say No to the Trumpacolyspe” (lot’s of options for titles) and post new videos every single day — fill it with soundbytes…
- And no, Dems, you do not need to pay for Digital ads — you saw how well that worked last Fall. Making a coherent case won’t cost anything beyond whatever your production costs are.
- Keep track of every Trump admin action and every result — post that list — everywhere. Let America know exactly how Trump is deconstructing the United States and who’s getting hurt.
So far, the Democratic Party has done a pretty good impression of the Keystone Cops; but they still have time to pull their crap together — and lets encourage them to do that by promising not to donate another dollar until they decide to exit the clown car and get serious.
P.S. — Senator Schumer is now voting for the CR while not managing to explain the prior opposition and not acknowledging the impacts. It’s one thing to let the GOP vote up or down on their own lunacy, it’s quite a another to go along with it.
