We are just at the beginning of Trump’s second term and already the stock market is in correction and looking like a 25% drop is about what would be necessary to balance out the losses that are going to be taken by the fascists who somehow never saw Chitolini doing the damage he is doing. Putting aside the cultural damage to the American way of life, historically what can we foresee for the coming depression?
First, given the loss of income from the hundreds of thousands of coming layoffs and firings just from people’s inability to find work, “Trumptowns” (tent cities) like Hovervilles the last time we tried this nonsense spring up with people cuing up in bread lines for the next daily meal. This will be common even in rural areas where Trump won the vote in 2024. The lack of action on Trump’s part to help, much like Herbert Hoover in 1930 will lead to people thinking they have been abandoned (which they already have) as prices fall (with profits) and business failures skyrocket.
The administration will continue to say that it is all temporary and if we can just hold on it all get better (don’t forget Hoover ran in 1932). More tariffs will be thrown at our neighbors and used to be allies as Trump thinks we need to protect the “Ameican jobs” we have left. Unemployment rates, rising between 10 to 20 percent mean small businesses can’t remain in business and the large businesses can’t sell at greater losses than they will already have.
Marshall law in many places will be called for as people march on Washington and politicians will promise relief but little will come. Housing will plummet with perhaps as much as a 50% loss further exacerbating the situation, but many will have to sell in order to get anything.
And MAGA? Will they still vote in 2026 for their Chitolini politicians who want to cut Medicare and Medicaid, privatize Social Security and cut benefits in all government programs in the name of DOGE? The election of 1930 didn’t change the House or the Senate much.
The carnage will go on. Don’t expect Trump to save anyone but Trump. He can sell you golden sneakers you know.
