I try not to criticize our leaders publicly too much because, frankly, that can backfire. Our attacks can weaken our own side. In elections with people like Trump, it’s important to be deeply pragmatic about these things. We have to win—no matter what.
That said, I’ve been deeply disappointed in our leadership so far during Trump’s second term—especially with reports that the continuing resolution (CR) fight is all just Kabuki theater and that Democrats plan to curl up into a ball and cave. That is not something I’m happy about, and I think they need to hear from us as loudly as possible.
But while I believe Democrats have been tepid in their response to Trump 2.0, there are notable exceptions. Bernie Sanders, for instance, is doing something Democrats almost never seem to do: he’s going on offense. Sanders stands alone as the only elected progressive willing to mount a national campaign to harness the fear and anger of the sprawling anti-Trump movement. To be fair, Tim Walz is also planning his own campaign to go into red districts and do the same—something I loudly applaud As is Elizabeth Warren (she’s my political love). That’s exactly the kind of strategy all Democrats should be pursuing, in my opinion. So, thank you to both Walz, Warren and Sanders. IMHO, the standard operating procedure should be: don’t cooperate—go on offense.
Anyway, this brings me back to an ad Bernie dropped from his rallies—something I haven’t seen posted here yet (forgive me if it has been). I’m not going to say I cried, but let’s just say my vision got a little foggy. It was a powerful ad in the fight against the oligarchy, and reminds me of what kind of country I want to fight for. I hope everyone gets a chance to see it.
