An elected Democrat is doing something

This is exactly what more elected Democrats should be doing. Arizona Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego recently visited rural areas, including deep Trump country, to speak directly with voters. He held a town hall in Sierra Vista, a Republican stronghold where the House seat in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District is held by a Republican.

Gallego spoke at the VFW to an audience of about 85 people, and their comments were revealing:

• Veteran Minerva Coffey asked, “How is it that as a veteran and a federal employee, I’m now sitting here wondering whether or not I’ll still have a job? How is it OK to attack myself and my fellow veterans?”
• Another veteran expressed anger over anti-DEI policies and the removal of information about women veterans.
• One attendee simply said she was glad to see a Democrat show up where she lived.

This is how we rebuild. Democrats need to go where people are, even in Republican districts, and have real conversations.
