The Sacramento Tesla Takedown on Saturday (3/22) was GREAT! I got there earlier this time (to get a good parking spot) and the first woman I talked to said that this was the first protest she's been to since the 1960s. That means a lot. She also hoped that she wouldn't have a heart attack, and that there would be no violence or police interactions. It was all good though.
I was disappointed that the local TV stations didn't show up, despite several of us emailing and calling them in advance. It's hard to get their attention sometimes, when other local events are going on. And they don’t like to do stories that might hurt local businesses.
But the guy I talked to at Fox 40 said I should send in photos and videos of the event if they didn't show up with their own camera crew. And I thought this might be a brush-off kind of comment, like "don't call us we'll call you", but he also sounded sincere.
So I did send him videos and pictures after the protest, and they actually included the video in the evening news coverage! They had a long story about Tesla Takedowns, and kicked it off with our footage/protest. They must have been working on that story already.
I’d like to link to that video, but for some reason can’t find it on their site or in a Google news search. I even emailed them to ask for it, but got no response. I’m wondering if they are purposely avoiding sharing it widely? I have it recorded on my TiVo though, and I could put out a bootleg version. But that’s probably a bad idea. So here’s just my video — make sure to turn on the volume:
And then I thought maybe I should also send pics/vids to KCRA 3 and CBS 13, maybe they would do the same? Then KCRA3 actually featured the local Sacramento protest with pictures (not mine, but similar), and used that as a lead-in to a long story about Tesla Takedown state-wide, and nation-wide.
Unfortunately the KCRA news clip does not seem to be on their website, or in a Google search. And again they did not respond to my email. And I do have the news clip recorded, but probably shouldn’t bootleg it. Right?
When I talked to CBS13 news they totally sounded like they would report on our protest and use the pictures/videos I sent, but instead had a long report on the Pasadena and San Jose Tesla Takedown protests. That’s pretty far from Sacramento. And again I can’t find that news clip on their website or in a Google search.
Good news though, while searching on Google news I found that Daily Kos gets pretty good search rankings! Even a couple of my posts showed up. Apparently DK has really good search engine optimization.
Next weekend, Saturday the 29th, we’re hoping to have 500 Tesla Takedown events worldwide! Please attend your local event, or start one! You can even protest at a charging station, or just a busy street, please sign up and do your part! actionnetwork.org/...
This can be done without violence, just coming together as a community. It feels good. It's not that hard. It’s fun!
