Sawgrass Lake is a nature preserve located right in the middle of St Petersburg FL just a short distance from my mobile home. It is one of my favorite places to take an afternoon walk. There’s usually a nice variety of critters to see.
The Daily Bucket is a regular series from the Backyard Science group. Here we talk about Mother Nature in all her glory, especially the parts that live nearby. So let us know (as close as you are comfortable) where you are and what's going on around you. What's the weather like? Seen any interesting plants, bugs or critters? Are there birds at your feeders? Deer, foxes or snakies in your yard? Seen any cool rocks or geological features? Post your observations and notes here. And photos. We like photos. :)
The preserve is across the street and about a mile from my home.
Alas, the park got severely busted up in the hurricanes last October and has been closed for several months. Most of it just reopened this month, but a part of it is still closed.
Some photos from a walk in the preserve.
There are still lots of felled trees from the hurricanes
The Visitors Center got mangled and there was lots of water damage inside, so it is being rebuilt
A walking path runs along the drainage canal
An overlook. The Alligators like to hang around here.
