I recently came across an interesting fact. All the Abandon Harris websites seem to have been quietly taken down.
First let me give a refresher course on the Abandon Harris movement. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel called Al-Aqsa Flood. Israel responded with a massive counterattack on Gaza. We can get into a long complicated debate on what Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans should have done, but that is not the point of this diary. In the aftermath of Israel’s invasion of Gaza a group of pro-Palestinian American voters started the Uncommitted Movement. These folks decided to vote uncommitted in the Democratic primaries in order to show their displeasure with how Biden was handling the conflict:
These folks became increasingly hostile to “Genocide Joe” Biden and went from being merely uncommitted to call for abandoning Biden and the Democrats in favor of staying home, voting for Jill Stein, or even voting for Donald Trump:
When Biden left the race and Harris was chosen as the Democratic nominee the Abandon Biden campaign became the Abandon Harris campaign:
Harris ended up losing Michigan along with several other swing states and Trump became President again. In the aftermath of the election many folks in the Abandon Harris campaign were thrilled by the results:
Jaylani Hussein is the founder and co-chair of the Minnesota chapter of the Abandon Harris campaign. He said that the results of the election are what they were expecting.
“It is beyond worth it,” Hussein said. “We warned the Democrats. We said this was going to happen, and it did happen.”

That joy does not seem to have lasted very long. On February 7, 2025, an Abandon Harris leader named Farah Khan gave an interview on Detroit Public Radio where she vowed to fight Donald Trump’s plans for Gaza. She also defended her involvement in the Abandon Harris campaign:
QK: You were Chair of the Michigan chapter of the Abandon Harris campaign. As you say, the group said it was leery of the Democratic administration because of its support for Israel. But now you have the Trump administration pushing this move in Gaza which would force out Palestinians, at least it seems on the surface. Do you have any second thoughts now about having pushed the Abandon Harris effort?
FK: Absolutely not. They are the trend-setters, this is their legacy. I have not 1% of regret for that. I would do it again if I had to. And we are going to organize powerfully against the Trump administration if they continue on this path. We told them the Muslim voting bloc actually made sure of your victory. Now you are betraying them, just as the Biden and Harris administration betrayed them, just like the Democrats have been betraying them. You know, who do we go to? We were pushing the third-party concept during the election as well. Why can we not promote good people who are not morally bankrupt to be our leaders?

Things have gotten much worse since last month.
Out of curiosity I decided to go to the Abandon Harris website yesterday and see what they were saying. I quickly discovered that it had been taken down:
abandonharris.com/…
They also took down their store where you could shop for Abandon Harris merchandise:
abandonharris.com/…
Along with the leadership page:
abandonharris.com/...
Jaylani Hussein took down his personal page:
abandonharris.com/…
And so did Farah Khan:

I did a search on the Wayback Machine. Apparently the Abandon Harris website was still up on March 16, 2025:
web.archive.org/…
However, it was taken down by March 20, 2025:
web.archive.org/…
This was right around the time Mahmoud Khalil was detained.
Their Instagram and Xitter accounts are also gone:

There are three possible reasons why all the Abandon Harris websites have suddenly disappeared:
1. They achieved their goal of getting enough people to abandon Harris and pave the way for Trump’s election. In that case I congratulate them. I wish we were all as successful in achieving our goals as the Abandon Harris crowd. Although this seems rather unlikely since Farah Khan vowed to also oppose Trump’s plans for Gaza.
2. They realized that they made a huge error by abandoning Harris and no longer want the pro-Palestinian movement associated with such a self-destructive campaign. Many Muslims will look back on the Abandon Harris campaign as a terrible idea and many potential Democratic allies are furious at the folks who sabotaged Harris and paved the way for Trump.
3. The Abandon Harris crowd is scared shitless of Trump. You can heckle Biden or Harris, but if you dare disrupt Trump he will try and get you deported tomorrow. It does not matter if you are here on a student visa, green card, or if you are a citizen. Trump will deport first and ask questions later.
Make of this turn of events what you will. All I can say is that elections have consequences.
