Trump's new slogan: "Smoot-Hawley and die!"
This can’t continue for four years.
Trump continues his war against America. He works to destroy our economy and undermine our defenses against human and biological enemies.
Democrats in Congress should draft articles of impeachment and post them online, (allowing for at least daily updates.) Of course, there is no chance of their being immediately enacted. But their publication would make the case for his removal as Jefferson (and Adams and Franklin) made the case for independence when they listed our grievances against King George. That went well, although it took a while.
The immediate functions of the articles would be to educate Americans, to provide a focus for resistance in the way that the Green New Deal resolution provides a basis for Progressive efforts, and to demonstrate "a decent respect for the opinions of mankind."
Our friends and allies should know that America is not their enemy. Only Donald Trump and his minions are genuinely hostile to them. No one has less respect for the opinions of mankind than Donald Trump. Democrats in Congress should demonstrate that they do respect our friends and allies.
One of the advantages of publication on line is that a document can be extensively footnoted, so that the abbreviated form of a list of offenses can be backed with detailed evidence without making the basic document too verbose. And new articles can be added and old ones revised as new crimes are committed. Articles against Trump need to be a “living document.”
I have read that Congressman Al Green was drafting articles, but I believe nothing has been presented to the House as yet.
