In November, Trump began threatening Canada with annexation while denigrating Canada’s Prime Minister by referring to him as “Governor of the 51st State”.
He followed in March by imposing draconian tariffs on a country with whom the United States has traded fairly and profitably for generations. He described the tariffs as a tool to convince Canada to join the US, saying, according to a Radio Canada article (ici.radio-canada.ca/...,) he planned to take over Canada with “economic force”.
Needless to say, these threats have not gone over well in Canada. A boycott of products made in the United States has begun, the US national anthem is regularly booed at hockey games, and Canadians have dramatically reduced travel to the country.
Gavin Newsome isn’t happy about this. California receives many Canadian visitors and it’s tourism industry will suffer economically if the reduced traffic continues. Today, he released a post on TikTok asking Canadians to visit the State.
The response from Canadians has been, well, not entirely positive.
x
1. USA continues to threaten Canada's sovereignty
2. Canadians have been detained by ICE (in California!)
3. USA has concentration camps (El Salvador) where innocent people are disappeared
Canadians are supposed to ignore all that to visit Disneyland?
Bruh.

But the mic drop moments belongs to Canadian satirical website, the Beaverton (who everyone should follow on BlueSky).
No offense to the majority of readers on this site who are American, but so long as Trump is president, travellers from Canada and around the world are going to avoid the United States like the plague.
