Why hello, my fellow fighters of freedom and defenders of Democracy! How is everyone holding up? Man, this year has been rough, to put it mildly. All of the relentless awfulness is exhausting yes, but what has been lifting my spirits is seeing how vibrant and strong The Resistance is. People coming out in every single fucking state, to show their anger at what's happening in this country. And despite the D&G, we are still here. Still fighting. Still resisting. So, what victories are we celebrating today? Let’s find out.
What to know:
- Who won? Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has won Canada’s federal election.
- What was on the ballot? Voters elected their local representative to the House of Commons. No other contests will appear on the ballot. Voters did not directly cast ballots for Prime Minister.
- Do Liberals have a majority? It’s not yet clear whether the Liberal party will be able to form a majority government. The leader of whichever party wins a majority of seats in the House of Commons will form a new government and serve as prime minister. If no party wins a majority, a party — usually the one with the most seats — can form a minority government but must rely on support from some opposition members. In rare cases, two or more parties might reach a formal agreement to form a coalition government together.
I’m sure we all know the results by now, but if you missed the news yesterday, here ya go. Thanks Trump for continuing to help get liberals elected all over the world!
Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday signed into law what may be the toughest gun control regulations in state history. Under the new law, it is illegal to buy, sell and make most semi-automatic firearms without background checks and training.
The governor was under heavy pressure to veto the bill from gun rights advocates, including Colorado's Republican members of Congress. They say the new law is unconstitutional.
Individuals would need to pass a background check and receive an eligibility card from their county sheriff, who could deny it if he or she believed the person was a danger.
Those eligible for training would need to pass a 12-hour safety course certified by Colorado Parks and Wildlife unless they have completed hunters' training, and then it would be 4 hours.
Their names would then go into a state database, allowing them to purchase a gun after passing another background check by a firearms dealer.
Repubs cry “unconstitutional!” Oh, now they care about the Constitution? Yeah, ok. Funny how they are always skipping over the ‘well regulated’ part of the 2nd amendment, eh?
In the wake of President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on dozens of countries, a vast majority of voters (72 percent) think the tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the short-term, while a smaller majority (53 percent) think the tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the long-term as well, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea- ack) University national poll of registered voters released today.
For the short-term, 72 percent of voters think the tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy, while 22 percent think the tariffs will help the U.S. economy.
Republicans are trusted less than Democrats with the economy, according to a new poll.
This is the first time since May, 2021, that the GOP has been seen as less trustworthy than Democrats with the nation's finances, according to the April 11-13 survey by Morning Consult, among 2,203 registered U.S. voters across the country.
If I live to be 150 years old, I will never, ever understand how anyone thinks Repubs are better at handling the economy. Like, never.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin governor’s creative use of his uniquely powerful veto to lock in a school funding increase for 400 years may be “attention grabbing,” but it was constitutional, the state Supreme Court ruled Friday.
The 4-3 ruling from the liberal-controlled court affirms the partial veto power of Wisconsin governors, which is the broadest of any state. Both Republicans and Democrats have used the partial veto to reshape spending bills passed by the Legislature.
Wisconsin is the only state where governors can partially veto spending bills by striking words, numbers and punctuation to create new meaning or spending amounts. In most states, governors can only eliminate or reduce spending amounts.
Democratic Gov. Tony Evers told lawmakers at the time that changing the year 2025 to 2425 in the budget was meant to increase school districts’ funding “in perpetuity.”
I love WI Dems! They are just kicking ass.
This week, polls were released by Pew Research, Fox, and Reuters/Ipsos. In all of the polls, Trump has by far the lowest approval in the history of any modern president.
Donald Trump spent yesterday morning attacking Rupert Murdoch for what Trump claimed was a “fake poll.”
When you look at the cross-tabs of each poll, Trump has lost major support and now has very low approvals among Latino Americans and 18-29-year-old Americans—groups that were somehow very helpful to Trump in the 2024 election. Trump’s approval is now lower than in his disastrous first term.
This has been posted here already but repetition is good!
New Jersey is now among 16 states that have declined to sign a letter from the Trump administration asking states to certify that they are not using "illegal DEI" policies in public schools.
The Trump administration has required state education departments to sign the letter to continue receiving federal K-12 funding. The federal government provides critical funding streams for low-income students and those with special needs, among others.
New Jersey's more than 600 school districts were already in compliance with civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination based on race, religion and other characteristics — a precondition they were supposed to meet to receive grant money — and therefore did not need to sign more documentation to prove it, state Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer said in a statement.
Remember when Repubs were all about state’s rights? Yeah, ok.
Rep. Robert Garcia traveled to El Salvador with three of his House colleagues this week in an attempt to see Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man whom the government acknowledged it mistakenly deported, but also the guy it refuses to helpdespite a Supreme Court ruling to do so….
...Garcia, the Long Beach Democrat, and his colleagues (Democratic Reps. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, Maxine Dexter of Oregon and Maxwell Frost of Florida) weren’t allowed to see Abrego Garcia.
But they did deliver a small bit of hope for the family and lawyers of another man stuck in the Terrorism Confinement Center, known as CECOT — the promise from the U.S. ambassador in El Salvador to look into the case of Andry José Hernández Romero, another deportee who has vanished into the black hole of this foreign prison.
“His family have no idea if he’s still alive. There’s been no wellness check, no access to legal counsel. No one has heard from him,” Garcia told me Tuesday.
This story is so awful and terrifying, but I’m happy to hear that Dems are still fighting about this and the story has legs and remains in the news, which, according to some things I read and heard, is driving the Orange One nuts.
The coal-fired Craig Station is still set to close in 2028 — even as the Trump administration is making a drive to keep coal units going — according to the operator’s electric resource plan filed with Colorado utility regulators on April 11.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, which runs the plant, says in its preferred plan that the Craig Unit 1 will close by the end of this year and units 2 and 3 will be shuttered in 2028.
Battery storage and a natural gas-fired plant will be added in Moffat County as part of the plan.
While the rest of the world is accelerating in clean energy, this administration goes completely in the opposite direction. Because, of course they are.
A Treasury Department inspector general is probing efforts by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to obtain private taxpayer data and other sensitive information, internal communications reviewed by ProPublica show.
The office of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has sought a wide swath of information from IRS employees. In particular, the office is seeking any requests for taxpayer data from the president, the Executive Office of the President, DOGE or the president’s Office of Management and Budget.
If what he was doing wasn’t illegal, then I have no fucking clue what is legal or not anymore. But the FO part is only just beginning for that clown.
By the numbers: Tesla, battered by boycotts, protests and even firebombings, saw its net income plunge 71% in the first quarter — triggering Musk's decision this week to scale back his involvement in DOGE.
- Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, a longtime Tesla bull, celebrated the end of "this dark chapter," but warned: "The brand damage caused by Musk in the White House/DOGE over the past few months will not go away."
- Musk's net worth has declined by a staggering $122 billion this year — nearly matching the $160 billion in government savings claimed by DOGE, which budget experts believe is wildly inflated.
North Carolina election officials may not start the process to throw out potentially thousands of people’s votes from the 2024 elections, in a lawsuit that will decide who wins the contested seat on the state Supreme Court, federal judges ordered Tuesday night.
I can’t wait for this story to be over already! But the last few rulings have gone in our favor, so we just keeping fighting until its’ done.
A panel of North Carolina judges struck down a new Republican-led law Wednesday that sought to move the state’s elections board under the control of the GOP state auditor — siding with Democratic Gov. Josh Stein and declaring the law unconstitutional.
Senate Bill 382, passed late last year, shifted a number of aspects of executive branch power within the state away from the incoming governor. Among those changes were steering control of the elections board — which is currently overseen by the governor and has a Democratic majority — to newly elected auditor Dave Boliek, a Republican.
Citing a series of prior rulings on executive power and elections board control, the Wake County Superior Court judges wrote that the law was unconstitutional and should be permanently enjoined.
A Republican effort to boost President Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaign in Arizona and force schools to open their doors to ICE agents was shut down by Gov. Katie Hobbs, who wielded her veto pen to reject the plan on Friday.
“Arizonans, not Washington, DC politicians, must decide what’s best for Arizona,” the Democrat wrote in her veto letter of the Arizona ICE Act.
Ugh, today’s repubs are relentlessly cruel. But The Resistance remains strong and we are fighting this madness everyday in every state.
WASHINGTON – A few years ago, Jeff was working for a California bank that asked him to look into getting the business listed on a website called PublicSquare.
The bank’s leaders were big supporters of Donald Trump, and PublicSquare was an ideal place to advertise it: Its website, which bills itself as “the anti-woke online marketplace,” is a hub of tens of thousands of businesses nationwide that want people to know they align with MAGA views and oppose so-called “progressive priorities” like women’s reproductive rights and diversity initiatives….
Jeff, a regular user of the social media platform Reddit, started noticing people in his San Diego community posting messages desperate for ways to fight back against Trump’s recklessness. Some called for boycotting MAGA-friendly businesses but didn’t know how to identify companies that support Trump’s views. So Jeff, who had extensively researched PublicSquare at his previous bank job, tossed in a note about it.
“MAGA has made it easy for all of us to avoid their businesses,” he wrote under his Reddit name, Hour-Abbreviations18. “A couple years ago, they introduced a website – publicsq.com — to promote MAGA businesses. We can use that same tool to make informed purchasing decisions.”
Go to this site. Find trump friendly businesses and DO NOT support them in anyway! Thanks idiots! Now we know who to avoid.
Consumer attitudes worsened more than expected in April, casting further gloom over the economy as President Donald Trump’s tariffs set off warnings of price increases and a possible recession, fresh data on Tuesday showed.
The reading of sour consumer sentiment marked the fifth consecutive month of decline, leaving the Conference Board gauge at its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.
But trump keeps saying how “beautiful” the tariffs are. The best tariffs ever!!
Most Americans take President Donald Trump at his word when he talks about sending American citizens to foreign prisons, serving a third term as president and trying to take control of Greenland and Canada -- even as sweeping majorities oppose each of these potential actions.
About 7 in 10 adults in this ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll think Trump is serious when he talks about sending American citizens who are convicted of violent crimes to prisons in other countries (71%) and the United States trying to take control of Greenland (68%).
And that’s all folks!
