MT Greene is a coward
Rep. MT Greene (R-GA) is a big-talking bully. And like every big-talking bully, the moment she ran into some difficulty, she slouched off like the craven whoopee cushion she is. The political Gods gave her a golden opportunity to burnish her political brand. But she choked. On Friday, she announced she would not run for the US Senate in 2026. And with that, she ran away from a fight.
How we got here
Sen. John Ossoff (D-GA) is running for reelection in 2026. The Republican candidate Democrats most feared was the current Governor, Brian Kemp.
Kemp is a rara avis in contemporary Republican politics. He is popular without being a Trump fluffer. I know of no pictures of him wearing the symbol of America's nascent fascism — the MAGA hat. He did not bow to Trump's desperate pressure to overturn Biden's win in the state in 2020. Nor did he prevent the election of Georgia's two Senators — both Democrats. Yet he remains very popular at home. Polls showed he was the one Republican who led Ossoff in voting intent.
Then Kemp, who will be a free agent in 2026 — he is term-limited as Governor — announced he would not run. This opening seemingly gave Greene, a two-term US Representative, a clear shot to step up the political ladder.
However, while there is no evidence Greene is intelligent, she can count. The same polls that showed Kemp leading also showed the Georgia Screech losing badly — by anywhere from 11 to 17%. There is debate about the legitimacy of polls. But obviously, the fleeing Greene believes them.
Not that she could admit that even the home-town fans think she is a carbuncle on the ass of America's body politic. She had to pretend she was standing on principle — a challenging position for one who likely does not know how to spell the word.
A poltroon's justification for her timidity
Greene's fragile ego will not let her admit she is a loser. In a Twitter screed she labeled "My Thoughts on the 2026 Senate Race," she boldly states:
Beating Jon Ossoff? That would be easy.
We'll have to take her word for it as she will never put that boast to the test. However, we can look at her stated reasons for not running. She starts with a paean to her fellow Georgians
I love my home state of Georgia so much. The people here may not be rich with the world's riches, but they are overflowing with kindness, love, family values, and a deep sense of joy.
"The people here may not be rich"? What a self-own. I doubt Greene intended to confess that conservative policies keep people poor. But she has — although I doubt she realizes she has. Told to connect two dots, Greene would need a cheat sheet. She sails on.
These are the people I fight for.
I can't speak for the MAGAs in her district, but the rest of the state appears not to agree. Perhaps because the only recent bill sponsored by Greene that has become law is an Act: "Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Energy relating to "Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Gas-fired Instantaneous Water Heaters".
I'm surprised they didn't throw a ticker tape parade for her.
She continues with a rant against Republican elites (Kemp) and the fact that billionaires own the party. She says they want someone who
won't dare challenge the Republican establishment or disrupt the status quo that has failed the people time and time again.
Blind to irony, Greene fails to understand that, in running away from the race, she is one of the people who "won't dare challenge the Republican establishment."
She then goes on to say polls are bullshit. Maybe they are. However, if they are, why isn't she running? After all, she goes on:
I'm effective, fearless, and relentless, not because I serve the Republican Party, but because I serve the American people.
The truth is at odds with her marketing. She is not effective (see above). She is too fearful to enter a tough race. But I'll give her "relentless" — in the same way brain cancer is relentless.
After some more whining, Greene gets back to self-congratulation
Yes, I'm competitive. Yes, I love to win. And yes, I know I would win both the primary and the general. I'd enjoy proving the elites wrong every single day. But that's not what motivates me.
This ode to her own awesomeness is as believable as if she had said, "I know I could buy the winning lottery ticket. But I won't, because that's not what motivates me." Her rationale is just stupid. If she wanted to prove the elites wrong "every single day," she could do so more effectively in the Senate. Both Houses are needed to pass any laws. However, only Senators can determine the fate of executive and judicial branch nominees.
Greene then gets specific
Can I deliver for the people of Georgia in the Senate? Can I fulfill my promises? Can I actually save this country from the inside?
Here's the hard truth: the Senate doesn't work. It's designed to obstruct the will of the people and protect the Uniparty's grip on power. Nearly everything requires 60 votes to pass, and even when we have a majority, a pack of Republican Senators always votes "no" on the bills that matter most.
C'mon Margy. Even you must know that the best way to reform an institution is from the inside. If you don't like how the GOP handles its Senate majority, become a Senator. You just told the world you would win. If you don't run, people will think you're scared.
Greene gets to the meat of the matter. She writes:
Someone once said, "The Senate is where good ideas go to die."
They were right.
That's why I'm not running.
I won't fight for a team that refuses to win, that protects its weakest players, and that undermines the very people it's supposed to serve.
Oh, Margy, please! You slam your team for "refusing to win," yet you're too scared to even play the game. She goes on. But it is more of the same. Typical. Greene is one of those pompous politicians who have nothing valuable to say and repeatedly say it. Quantity never makes up for quantity.
MT Greene is like a 7-Eleven Big Gulp. It's cheap. There's a lot of it. It's a weird color. And it has no nutritional value.
