Donald Trump finally has someone that has outdone him in bluster and firebrand statements.
Johnson was responding to a question about whether Trump should endorse the idea of border czar Tom Homan arresting Gov. Newsom.
"I'm not going to give you a legal analysis of whether Gavin Newsom should be arrested, but he ought to be tarred and feathered, I'll say that."
Of course he had to follow that up with criticism of Newsom filing suit against Trump for both the National Guard and the Marines being deployed.
"He's standing in the way of the administration and the carrying out of federal law."
Just what federal law are you talking about? The Comitatus Act which forbids using Federal military personnel against US citizens? ICE doesn't need any additional help to conduct raids. They've been doing it all along during the LA protests. That's what caused the protests.
"He is applauding the bad guys, and standing in the way of the good guys."
Johnson is supposed to be a constitutional scholar, but he completely misses the First Amendment. He could be talking about the immigrants and not the protesters, but I'm not going to give him that advantage. He did not explain.
"He's a participant, an accomplice, in our federal law enforcement agents not just being disrespected, but assaulted. This is a serious problem."
Okay, he finally says federal law enforcement. That's not the National Guard. Disrespecting ICE agents is something anyone, any US citizen, even undocumented immigrants, are allowed to do. They have a right to do. I have not found a single instance of an ICE agent being assaulted during the LA protests. There is one masked protester that is on the FBI's most wanted list for assaulting a federal officer, but it doesn't say what type the officer was. One.
Of Newsom's lawsuit, he said, "What a joke. Do your job, man. Stop working on your rebranding, and be a governor."
Newsom shot right back on social media, "Good to know that we're skipping the arrest and going straight for the 1700's style forms of punishment. A fitting threat given that the @GOP want to bring our country back to the 18th century."
Johnson gave still another excuse. "We've got to protect them [federal law enforcement], and federal employees, as well, and federal buildings and property. We are not going to let violent criminals destroy the property of us taxpayers."
Seems to me that the General Services Administration is trying to sell off property at such a clip, maybe the Federal Building isn't a federal building anymore. Nobody attacked the buildings anyway, other than a bunch of graffiti.
Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said Trump sending National Guard to Los Angeles was so egregious, when he wouldn't send any to the nation's Capitol building when besieged by insurrectionists on January 6th. Two-faced. Double standard. He's lying for an excuse.
Speaker Johnson is just a shill for Trump. A toadie in chief. A simpleton. Supposedly scholared, but showing no signs of it.
We deserve better.
