What the hell am I doing running for VA House of Delegates in one of the most Republican parts of the state? District 44.
I'm not the type to get involved this way!!
I have dogs, kids, a grandkid, a leaky roof, and all the usual problems people have. Why am I doing this?
A big part of why I'm doing this is because I have a granddaughter, and she needs to have the same control over her body that I got after 1973. I want my daughters and granddaughter to have the right to make their own healthcare decisions.
I detest a bully, and I feel like that is what we are seeing with the federal government and some of the States are joining in. I don't want my granddaughter to grow up in a situation where bullying is accepted.
I work at a non-profit that provides impact lending. I am able to help developers build affordable housing. Assist businesses and non-profits succeed. I take great pride in helping those borrowers that otherwise wouldn’t be able to obtain financing.
Whatever my granddaughter decides to do when she is older, I want her to be able to finance her dreams.
My campaign manager and I hard at work on the trail (my grand dog)
My lived experience has shown me that people need a chance, they need the safety nets that are being attacked. I want everyone, my granddaughter included, to have access to the safety nets our government has provided for so long.
That's just a part of the reason I've decided to run. There is also that "little part" about having a choice in a democracy.
Even in a so-called “safe seat,” we can:
* Hold incumbents accountable
* Raise the volume on the issues no one is talking about
* Defend our democracy at the local level
* Stand up for our neighbors, especially those being left behind
This campaign is powered by people, not corporations — and we’re here to make sure every voter in Southwest Virginia knows their voice still matters.
