Reposted from Thursday to get some more eyes and comments.
I have a friend who will be taking his professional photographic skills on a trip up through the western side of the Great Plains states (Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, South and North Dakota, possibly Montana), looking for some interesting shots to restock his portfolio. He says it has been awhile since he went up through that area and he is looking to get some new images.
He has taken a number of photographs of grasslands, old buildings, old signs, old vehicles, old and new people, old things, wildlife, interesting trees and lots of landscapes. On this trip, he’s looking to add to his collection in a number of ways, so I decided to ask Kosacks for recommendations for where he might go on his journey. He will be doing some car-camping, some motel-staying, and he may try some astrophotography if he finds some dark clear skies. He may be looking for special events like rodeos or festivals to photograph; he has been photographing some of the protests in Denver so people in activities would interest him. In talking with him he has indicated interest in the Badlands, Custer State Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and I suggested some of the other NPS sites like Little Bighorn Battlefield NM and Devils Tower NM (I suggested having mashed potatoes for dinner the night before). He’s probably going to take about two months to cover the states, towns and miles of paved and dirt roads, so I look forward to sharing your ideas for where he might find some special inspiration.
I am sure there may be vistas, parks, roadways, favorite points or places where you might suggest he go looking for special places for his camera to take some views. He doesn’t tend to like taking views that have been taken hundreds of times before, but maybe if there are ways to take a photo of a site that haven’t been done to death, he could be intrigued. I’ll be posting this diary again on Saturday to see if I can get some more eyeballs and suggestions, but please, post some ideas down below. Thanks in advance.
