The only reason to be frustrated with something is that you don’t get it. Once you understand something you tend to move on, it’s in you, you got it. You might keep up with a topic but you don’t “need” to do so. But if it keeps bothering you it’s because you haven’t gotten it yet.
Now, contrary to popular belief, I don’t hate white people. I don’t hate anyone, not even my own mother IYKYK. I may dislike someone, get angry of frustrated, but hate is a waste and it’s destructive, it sours you. I’ve been through too much in life, heard too many stories, to hate people.
Every single person on this earth has their own baggage, their own story, there’s a reason people act the way they do, they went through stuff too, so while I may not understand their reactions, I know it’s because of baggage. It’s hard to hate someone when you think about what must have made them a certain way. Like I said before, to me the why of things is the most important of things.
People talk or write about stuff that affects their lives, racism affects mine and my kid’s, my family, my people, so I talk about that. I also talk a lot about my kid cause he’s part of my life. You get tired of hearing about racism, because it’s not in your everyday life. It is really that simple. I was going to say it doesn’t affect you, but it does you just don’t notice it because it’s not concrete for you.
By some odd logic, you also think that by denouncing racism, Black folks absolve themselves from other forms of bigotry and prejudices, we don’t. We know we got our own bigotry and prejudices (homophobia, transphobia, sexism, etc...) from culture same as you, just not the racism because we are the target of that. The only difference is it’s a bit easier for us to spot bigotry because we know what to look for.
Why are you bothered by my writings? What’s it to you if I write about it every day? No one is forcing you to read me. Do you realize that I’ve live 30 of my nearly 60 years in the states and the only days I can say I didn’t face some form of racism were the ones I stayed home and didn’t leave my apt and received no visits?
Seriously, can you even fathom what that means? Do you understand that I fear bringing my son to the states even though he’s American because I don’t want one day to hear “he didn’t comply?”. Seriously, every single day. Every single day. Every single Black person even if they don’t tell you about it?
Tell me, what’s a thing you dislike? Either eating, doing, or whatever. Now imagine having to face that every day of your life with no end in sight. Well? Racism is like that. Every time we step out, we risk encountering it, worse thing is most days if not every day we do.
And you’re bored and tired of hearing or reading about it? Ouf! Imagine bearing witness to what’s going on today in our country and being bored with talks of racism. Ouf! Nazis flags. Patriot marches. Nooses in businesses. Disappearing people. ICE. But you’re bored with reading /hearing about racism. Ouf! All right then, don’t.
