Estes Park had two mass protests just this last week. The first was on Tuesday, January 6th, to mark the anniversary of Trump’s goons attacking the US Capitol building back in 2021, five years ago, trying to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Then, just five days later, another protest was held to protest the outrageous actions of Trump’s brownshirts/Gestapo/police force/stormtroopers/ICE in shooting unarmed former Coloradoan Renee Nicole Good as she tried to drive away in the midst of chaotic instructions from multiple officers on a cold day in Minneapolis. I sincerely doubt Estes Park or any town in Colorado has held two mass protests in this short a time period before this era of Trump.
January 10th, the protest against ICE. I brought my US flag to this protest. I thought the most clever signs were the ice scrapers, though it took me a moment to comprehend them. This was a one hour turnout on a very cold, windy day with very short notice, but you can see the turnout is comparable to the turnout below. Proud of my small town.
January 6th. You can see that the big artificial Christmas tree in the background has been taken down by the time of the protest in the upper picture. I counted more than 100 people, and there were people coming and going from this protest. This was a two hour protest on a weekday, so the turnout was very good.
Other articles on protest rallies, marches and events so far this year (remember, it’s less than two weeks old).
In other news, last week I talked about Trump vetoing a bill to provide clean water to SE Colorado. This bill had been passed unanimously by both the House and Senate and it was something that had been worked on for years by Congressmen and most recently by Representative Lauren Boebert as she represents this district in the US House. I wondered how effective she was going to be in fighting to get this veto overturned, especially since she had been one of the very few Republicans who had signed on to get the Epstein files released and so in part had earned the wrath of Trump for the state of Colorado (well, he is also mad that Tina Peters is locked up and he can’t pardon her).
Representative Boebert was unable to get the veto overturned. The final vote was 248-177 in favor of overturning the veto, which means 35 Republicans voted to overturn the veto and 40 chose to uphold it. 2/3rds of the voting members of the House needed to overturn the veto, which left her about 37 short.
Representative Boebert has not given up on providing clean water for her district — at least in part.
Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert lauds House passage of funding package providing millions for water projects. Maybe, just maybe, she might have found a cause she can believe in.
Rep. Lauren Boebert continues her work to improve access to clean water in Colorado's 4th Congressional District as the House of Representatives passed an appropriations package authorizing funding for multiple community water projects this week.
Boebert's fight for improved access to clean and reliable water has been a continued focus for the congresswoman. She has been working to secure congressional support for funding to improve the Prairie View Ranch Water District, where she met with residents who were exposed to toxic sludge containing radioactive lead and uranium in their drinking water last year.
…
Boebert shared a statement on Friday celebrating the passage of the legislation.
"I am thrilled that the House has passed this vital appropriations package, delivering $11.75 million for essential water projects right here in Colorado's 4th Congressional District," said Boebert. "Water is one of the most important issues facing our rural communities, and I've fought hard to secure these funds because Coloradans deserve clean, reliable water. From building new pipelines and treatment facilities to replacing aging infrastructure, these projects will benefit thousands of families, boost fire protection, and support economic growth. This is a big win for Colorado families, farmers, and small towns."
Speaking of Tina Peters (or Petters, as Trump wrote in one of his latest “Truths”), The Hill quotes our Governor Jared Polis musing about giving her clemency.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) on Friday said he’s considering granting Tina Peters clemency, after she was jailed for her role in an election security breach.
“She got a sentence that was harsh. It was a nine-year sentence,” Polis said in an interview with CBS Colorado.
Polis has one more year to go. I don’t know about y’all, but I certainly don’t want him to give her any mercy. She has shown no remorse for her actions. She has never apologized. She has never accepted that the results of the election were truthful and accurate. Until she accepts that she was wrong and that the election was correct, she needs to stay in jail. If she pays lip service and lies to get out of jail early, I want her ass thrown back into jail for the completion of her sentence.
OK, that’s my piece for tonight. You can add your thoughts in the comments. The floor is yours...
