There has been a lot of speculation as to why DHS released the video of the cell phone footage of the ICE agent who murdered Ms Good, when it clearly doesn’t exonerate him (except in the minds of the fanatical few who believe everything Trump tells them), and it contradicts every statement Trump, Vance and Noem have made about the encounter.
I believe that the DHS released the video because they knew it would appeal to their neanderthal base. First of all, it includes video of Good’s wife berating the officer. For MAGA supporters, the fact that these women are lesbians already dehumanizes them. The fact that they also disrespected the ICE agents justifies any violence that the agents might unleash upon them.
Next, the video captures the moment when Good begins to slowly drive away from the officer, in which other videos taken at the scene show the car lightly brushing against his body at low speed as he stupidly leans in front of a moving car. The shakiness of a hand-held phone camera (which the agent then drops) makes the incident look much more dramatic than it really was. In the eyes of the MAGA crowd, this proves that Good ran over the officer, even though 5 other videos taken at the scene show that she didn’t. Luckily for ICE, the horrific image of the agent shooting Good three times in the face aren’t captured by the video, we only hear the sound of the gun.
Finally, the DHS chose to leave in the final seconds of the video, as we hear the officer shout out ‘fucking bitch’ at the woman he has just murdered. Again, you have to conclude that this is deliberate, that the DHS knows that this is catnip to the MAGA crowd, who are cheering that this uppity lesbian got what she had coming to her.
The other probable reason they released the video is as a warning to future protestors- we are ICE and we can fire our guns in the middle of a crowded street, murder a woman in cold blood, and send an out-of-control car hurtling down the street without any consequence.
