Another day, another example of congressional Republican cowardice with regards to Donald Trump. I know. Sun rises in the East. We hear more bleating and dithering from Senate Republicans over Trump’s threats to Denmark and Greenland. But in the MS Now article, we see the so-called “thought process” of some centrist Senate Democrats, and it’s appalling.
Let’s go with the Republican cowardice first. Senate Republicans admit that they are “not on the same page” as Senate Democrats when it comes to Greenland.
“I’m not sure what the page is on Greenland,” Sen. John Kennedy told MS NOW. “If your question is, do I think the administration is going to take Greenland by force? The answer, in my opinion, is no, nor should they,” Kennedy said. …
It was a similar story with Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., who told MS NOW that she didn’t know “that there is a page” on Greenland. “I don’t see why we can’t just go sit down with the citizens of Greenland and say, ‘Hey, can we have a presence here to protect you and protect the United States from China and Russia?’” Lummis said. “We don’t need to buy them. We don’t need to take them over to do that. We can do it with just military protection agreement.”
Lummis is either extremely stupid, or she thinks her voters are. WE ALREADY HAVE A MILITARY BASE ON GREENLAND! Just use Google to find it!
The problem with Lummis is that she is RETERING THIS YEAR, but Lummis still reeks of cowardice. It’s all part of her treating Trump like the overgrown baby that he is. “Oh, let’s let little Donald have more military bases in Greenland! Aren’t those extra bases just the cutest thing? That should pacify him! Goo, goo, goo!”
As for Senator Foghorn Leghorn, he won’t say how he might vote on any War Power Resolution on Greenland. He’d have to see it first and debate. Worthless POS.
Others like Cruz, who gave his testicles to Trump years ago, is all for taking over Greenland. When the going gets freezing cold, the tough head to Cancun. And Greenland is for others to deal with.
Now, most of the Senate Democrats who have a modicum of sense simply do not trust any of the Senate Republicans, especially on this issue. They just witnessed the cowardly Jan 6th sprinter Hawley and the tough former Marine Young capitulate to Trump on Venezuela. Both took Marco Rubio’s word that there would be no boots on the ground in Venezuela.
It seems that those Democrats want to get Senate Republicans on the record on Greenland, if only to show their abject cowardice to everyone. The sensible Democrats see NO CHANCE that a War Power Resolution would pass the Senate. And even if it did by some miracle, Trump would veto it.
However, we have at least one Senate Democratic centrist who is taking some powerful narcotics: Senator Tim Kaine of VA,
Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who authored the failed Venezuela war powers resolution, wants to put Republicans on record now about Greenland, telling reporters that he expects “overwhelming Republican support” for legislation blocking Trump from taking Greenland. “Not unanimous, but we’ll get very strong Republican support,” Kaine said.
Kaine explained the strategy earlier this week after the failed Venezuela vote, telling reporters that Democrats should make Republicans “have to work their ass off to keep their people in the corral.” He suggested that, even if Congress couldn’t adopt war powers resolutions, Democrats could force Trump to make “some commitments” to uncomfortable Republicans.
Kaine obviously is not talking with his fellow Democratic senators. Kelly said that the Republicans would fold in an instant because they “respond to pressure from Trump.” And while other Democrats state that Republicans know this is an imbecilic idea to take Greenland, they don’t expect Senate Republicans to defy Trump.
Kaine is the canary in the coal mine for me when it comes to the deluded thinking of Senate Democrats who insist bipartisanship is still possible with the fascist party. You can see that in the efforts that Jeanne Shaheen is trying to do with Lisa Murkowski. Instead of demanding a meeting with Trump, Shaheen and Murkowski go to Denmark for a talk.
The Danes aren’t the problem. It’s Trump who is the problem.
Anyway, Republicans are in full denial about Trump. As I said, instead of directly confronting Trump, some of them like the Satanic Turtle of Kentucky, Mitch McConnell, howl warnings from well of the Senate. You do realize Mitch that Trump doesn’t watch C-SPAN. Correct?
Until the Republicans grow a collective pair of balls, which will be never, Trump may eventually order a military strike on Greenland. For now, Trump’s impersonating a mob boss with his other favorite weapon: tariffs. I’m sure the Republicans are like, “Phew! He’s only using tariffs for now!” It’s not like tariffs are a tax on Americans. /s.
