Calling all volunteers!
It will take a lot of people to save any semblance of an image stash for WordPress. If you can help assemble diaries, great! If you want your images included and they are good quality, tag them in your image library. You can also tag other people’s images for search purposes. If you don’t want one of your images saved or used, you should change the "license" field in the image library to "my use only":
the default “Daily Kos use only” allows anyone to see and use the uploaded image.
Here are the ground rules:
Choose a category from the attached list.
Start your draft. Title should be Save The Images: (category name)
Open your draft diary with the group boilerplate:
These diaries are archival, for the transition to WordPress. Please only comment to add images that match the group, or with added information about one of the images.
Once we are in WordPress, there will be no site Image Library. But you will be able to tag-search this group of diaries, select the category you are looking for, and click, download, then upload the image you want into the diary or comment you are working on.
If you do not wish one of your personal images to be included, please contact the diarist.
PUT A PAGE BREAK IN, CLOSE TO THE TOP. Either right after the boilerplate or after the first image. Else your diary takes up the whole freaking column and drives everyone nuts. The page break icon is fifth from the right on the tool bar, looks like a piece of paper disappearing into a shredder.
Start searching and adding images in your category. Thinking of the search terms is sometimes difficult. Put a bit of text between each, just a number or a few hyphens if needed. But if there is any information with the image, copy it and paste it in. Especially grab attributions, descriptions, and locations if they are given.
BE SELECTIVE. Leave out blurry, low-light or otherwise low-quality images. Look for the best among a group of similar shots. The object is to save images that diarists and commenters (that’s a hopeful...) will find useful, not to save everybody’s family album. You will encounter many copies of some images, especially memes, we only want one.
Persist. There may be hundreds in a given category. You may subdivide it if necessary, be sure your diary title reflects which part this is.
In the list below, categories that have been claimed are marked with an asterisk and the volunteer’s name. Speak up when you start one and I will mark it as yours.
