Last September, driving home from Idaho, I had one final day in the mountains. I visited Devils Tower, and then crossed into South Dakota. Mountains gave way to the High Plains with scattered rock outcrops. I noticed that one of them, north of US Highway 212, was called Deers Ears. It occurred to me that I now had a trifecta of animal ears in my travel portfolio.
Deers Ears Butte in South Dakota. You may continue reading the diary after you count all the cows.
So we have Mule’s Ears and Deers Ears. What’s the third? It’s one that some of you Dear Readers might have visited, as it is located on a well traveled highway in Colorado, at the Continental Divide.
Rabbit Ears.
My beloved kitty Noble Fur once posed at the Divide.

Four pics makes for a brief diary, so allow me to add a few from Bluesky. It turns out that there are several plants with a common name of mule’s ears or mule-ears.
There is a jelly ear fungus.
And a Bears Ears National Monument.
I shall close with one more set of ears. Somewhere in my files is a picture of Noble Fur at the top of a stairway with only her ears showing, but I can’t readily find it. This one will do.
New Day Cafe is a daily community diary. We have a regular core group that shows up nearly every day, plus a few stragglers. Everyone is welcome; we’re always happy to have new folks show up. But please leave your attitude at the door. Personal attacks will be countered with scorn, and repeat violators will be flagged into oblivion.
Remember too: By group consensus, no pictures of Dear Leader are allowed here.
