AI is the ultimate dream for uber-rich types singularly uninterested in making products that benefit humankind anymore. A plagiarism machine, a job destroyer, a despoiler of the biosphere, and an unreliable search tool, all rolled into one! What is not to like? Actually, most people in poll after poll fucking hate AI, but much like the Republican Party, this turd keeps floating to the top of the media toilet bowl, and is forcibly pushed before our noses; as if this fecal layer cake of horribleness will suddenly look more delicious one day. Maybe through the use of generative AI.
I have a theory that the billionaires all want out of society, perhaps to retire to their bunkers to start the master race, once and for all, but their disdain for the public good ( for the poors) is such that they simply can’t resist setting it all on fire using AI on the way out.
Another unintended consequence of this execrable tech: AI doomsayers. I mean, sure, it is a catastrophe ( for the reasons I cited), but it is not poised to become some sentient creature like the Demon Seed, that will usher in a holocaust. I don’t give a shit how many coders you parade before me to tell me otherwise. AI can’t think. This anthropomorphic perspective is warmed over Marvin Minsky ( who visited Epstein in jail, so, a totally ethical dude), who is also the guy who popularized the notion of the singularity. Stupid shit.
A more realistic dystopian spin is this: AI is a self-reinforcing fantasy, a product of billionaire groupthink ( amplified by a gullible and fawning business media) where capitalism is outsourced to shitty machines, and humans are laid-off to the extent they can be. Its not that the machines can do these jobs better ( they can’t, in most cases), it’s that the billionaires simply don’t give a shit, because they have more money than Satan. Meanwhile, In the real world, AI is not profitable, it is way too expensive ( in every sense) and such a shitty product that they are giving it away. FUCK AI….
