Countdown to International Dark Sky Week | April 13–20, 2026 ... Join us this April as we “go dark” to explore the night and take action to protect dark skies
This newly processed image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is the clearest view yet of the Egg Nebula. It is a preplanetary nebula, a structure of gas and dust created as a Sun-like star approaches the end of its life. The daily Nature Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, climate change, soil, plants, waters and note life’s various patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

First Alert Weather: Could it be snow for show?
The calendar says we are heading into the first full week of April, but it will feel more like the middle of March. The chilly weather will continue for another two days as temperature readings will only be in the middle 40s on Monday and in the middle 30s for Tuesday. The precipitation will “off and on” during the next 48 hours and likely flip back and forth between scattered rain showers and wet snow showers. This is not unusual for this time of the year. www.whec.com/…
