Here beside my writing is really what I wanted to share with you all :-)
(I tried to include a picture/poster of Shawn Harris saying “Thank you Northwest Georgia. ONWARD.The Fight Continues. Shawn Harris for Congress” Then I would have pointed to it and said: To borrow a recent repeated saying from Paula Poundstone “And that’s → what I want to talk to you about .” But when I hit Publish, it said I had an error, so hope it will publish now that I’ve removed the photo!)
Though Shawn Harris is not (yet) the next Democratic Representative from GACD14, he had big successes last night! Winning more votes than any Democrat has EVER won in his District, and narrowing the R margin % in 2024 from 29 % against MTG and 37 % compared to Trump, to 11.8 % against Trump-endorsed Fuller.
Both of these are wins that keep possibility alive for those voters in CD14 who reject a malignant narcissist who went so far as to start an illegal war of choice rather than face the people about the truth of his heinous crimes detailed in the Epstein files (and that’s just one crime category out of countless others.) Voters who have never had a choice like Shawn!
Of course I am disappointed, but not devastated, and still optimistic! I think this race in November will come down to a few central things, and one is turnout. Activate Shawn’s expanding base of support and it’s a done deal!
I’ve read great stories and comments here today, including those where the support of a campaign like this one is deemed a way to spend donation dollars in the wrong place.
We all still have the same goal (+ or - some adjectives): to elect more progressive, forward-thinking, liberal, brilliant, savvy, caring, win-able Democrats to retake the House AND the Senate, and save Democracy so we can all live to put this country back together again.
So, yes, I’ll continue to support this campaign, here and in other ways too! With Shawn as the only Democrat on the May Primary Ballot, and Fuller facing primary competition from multiple Rs, I will add to my focus some vitally important races this spring in GA. First, the GA Supreme Court Election, which is the lowest turnout race of all races here, and where we have 2 great candidates who could reshape the Court in a positive and dramatic way! [And a huge congratulations to Judge Chris Taylor, the newest Supreme Court Justice in Wisconsin!!]
Others are critical local, county, and state-wide races, plus a national race for who will replace MTG’s BFF, Representative Andrew Clyde, infamous for his quote after January 6: “It was just a normal tourist visit.” (I don’t think I used the strikeout correctly, I just wanted to show that I am not a fan.)
And I’ll continue to look for guidance here on Kos for how to choose my donation targets wisely as the countless requests for money roll on in for the midterms.
For now, I’d like to take this moment to send this message:
To Shawn Harris and the Shawn for Georgia team and all the GACD14 voters and volunteers, job well done! Congratulations! Primary then midterms, here we come!
And a big thanks to all Kos readers who took an interest in these writings and made calls and donated and sent good vibes to the campaign, and gave invaluable feedback in comments and more good vibes here by Recs and voting in polls :-)
Here’s something I’d like to leave with you:
Watch what Shawn said to his supporters last night about the results of the race.
When you click the link above to go to Shawn’s FB page, currently there are 3 videos (Reels) in a row- all are good, but I want to emphasize the third one you’ll get to when you scroll, the one from last night at the end of the watch party. (2:26 long)
