By now, everyone's heard the controversy surrounding both Karl Rove & Dick Durbin.
I won't rehash what both said but they both got in trouble with the other side b/c they said something not nice.
What I want to point out is how the two parties reacted to both.
Dick Durbin after taking alot of heat from Republicans & then getting undercut by some Democrats -- most notably in his home state of IL, Chicago mayor Daley (almost said Delay) -- capitulated to the right & apologized.
Karl Rove not only used a national tragedy to promote his agenda -- but NEVER apologized for it.
Now get this. The Republicans aren't backing down. Shhhh. The White House
stands by Rove.
In fact...
Congressional Republicans earlier joined the White House in standing solidly behind Rove, saying he shouldn't apologize
They are quote "not sure why" Rove's remarks "touched a cord with the Democrats" -- WH communications director Dan Bartlet.
NOW. WHATEVER WE SAY ABOUT THE REPUBS, THEY ARE NOT UNDER-CUTTING THEIR GUY, THEY LINED SOLIDLY BEHIND HIM & THEY WILL NOT APOLOGIZE -- going so far as to make it look like the Dems are just whining.
THAT'S HOW YOU FIGHT, DAMMIT.
You don't F*ing undercut each other.
You don't make you party WHIP -- the Whip for godsakes!! there's a reason for the title!!! -- you don't make him apologize with tears!!
There is merit to those who say "well, we did the right thing" etc...(I disagree that Durbin said ANYTHING wrong). That we took the high road.
But please look at what road the Rethugs are taking & realize we need to fight as well.
Whatever the merits of an apology, it's politically damagin to the party now.
& whatever you dislike about Rove,
HIS PARTY IS BEHIND HIM & WILL NOT STOP FIGHTING FOR HIM.
