According to the
Many Worlds Interpretation of
Quantum Mechanics, every time something happens where there are multiple possibilities, our world branches off into a continuing infinite number of parallel-universes. These world exist in space-time, but in other dimensions we can't detect. The significance of this is, there are other version of me & there are other versions of you, out there somewhere. Put simply, it's sorta like the episode of
"Star Trek" where Kirk ends up in a universe where
Starfleet is evil & parallel-universe Spock is sporting a goatee. Couple all of this with
Chaos Theory & you have all types of hell breaking loose.
Somewhere there is a world where John Kerry is in the middle of his 1st 100 days, or Al Gore is starting his second term. There is a parallel-universe where Howard Dean is President Dean. Hell, there's a world where Ralph Nader is President. There's a world where 9/11 & the Iraq War never happened.
What if things had gone just a little differently? Here are some to ponder...
- What if Dean was the nominee? Does he beat Bush?
- What if Al Gore becomes President in 2000? Does 9/11 happen? What about Iraq?
- What if Bill Bradley is the Democratic nominee in 2000? Does it make a difference either way?
- What if Mario Cuomo ran in 1992? Does he beat Clinton? Does he beat Bush?
- What if in 1988, Gary Hart doesn't have any "Monkey Business"? Does he become the nominee & beat Bush?
- What if in 1980, Ted Kennedy wins the Democratic nomination instead of Jimmy Carter? Does he beat Reagan, without carrying the baggage of Carter?
- 1968 creates 2 what ifs. What if Lyndon Johnson decided to stay & run for President? Does he beat Richard Nixon? What if Robert Kennedy lived? Does he get the nomination?
