Hello from Maine,
As we approach the Nov. '04 elections, with discussions about computer voting machine flaws, there was ONE MAJOR PROBLEM with those punch card machines that was never addressed by the media, to my knowledge.
I have been making Pianola rolls for 52 years, and we have "burrs" or "tags" on poorly perforated holes, called "chads" by the voting machine people, in the media.
However - one thing that was never addressed, was that worn guides (or ones that were tampered with) can let a 'PERFECT LOOKING' HOLE be made, but ... which will be skipped or misread by the counting machinery. Player rolls can make awful sounding chords, with holes that "look perfect" ... but which are "misaligned".
All I saw were the VISUAL aspects of the FL voting cards, not this type of error, which was probably more common.
