With all of the talk about the DaVinci Code, it's interesting to remember that this isn't Brown's first book. But if anyone paid attention to his first major publication (that I'm aware of anyway), they'd be just as pissed as they are about DaVinci.
There has been much discussion over the past several weeks and months about "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown. This, of course, was not his first book, nor, in my opinion, his best.
The prequel to DaVinci was "Angels & Demons", with the same protagonist, Robert Langdon.
There is a very prescient quote from the book where Langdon is reflecting on a lecture on the purpose of terrorism. He recounts the question under discussion, "Terrorism has a singular goal. What is it?"
The response, of course, is to cause terror.
"The goal of terrorism is to create terror and fear. Fear undermines faith in the establishment. It weakens the enemy from within... causing unrest in the masses...Terrorism is a political weapon."
I think this clearly demonstrates the fact that the number one terrorist organization in the world is the Bush Administration.
For nearly 5 years, this administration has done all it can to capitalize on a single issue, 9/11, and continues to create fear among the people of this country. It has been used, masterfully, by the way, by Rove and Co. to further the strengthening of Bush's power.
The war on Terror is currently being fought, not by this country against Arab groups, but by progressives and liberals against the Bushies that are continually creating terror and fear among the voters.
