Here's the numbers:
Santorum: $3.8M raised this quarter, $5.7 on hand
Casey: $1.9M raised this quarter, $1.6 on hand
Pennacchio: $20,000 on hand
Quoth the pundit:
Casey's numbers are "very respectable," said Jennifer Duffy, an analyst for the Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan newsletter, "but then you look at what he is up against, and that takes some of the shine off."
. . .
"We've never expected to have more money than Rick Santorum, but we do believe that we will have the money needed to win," Jay Reiff, Casey's campaign manager, said Friday.
Casey, a son of the late governor, raised $300,000 over the Internet, about half of which was raised with help from the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org, Reiff said. Most of the rest came from fundraisers, including out-of-state events in New York, Washington and Dallas, and from telephone solicitations, he said.
Query: is there a point at which we can really say Pennacchio is no longer viable because he just doesn't have the money?
