Traitors should face the death penalty. Democtrats are often accused of being bleeding hearts, who do not want to punish criminals. Now is the time to improve our image.
If a traitor is someone who aids and abets the enemy during a time of war, it is not difficult to make the case that he should face the death penalty. During World War II, if a government official had given the name of one of our spies to the Germans, I would hope that they would be lined up against a wall a shot by a firing squad. Presumably, our federal law provides for the death penalty for traitors.
According to President George Bush we are involved in a war and this is a time of war and he is the "wartime" president. Valerie Plame's cover was blown when it was published in the newspaper. This provided aid and comfort to our enemies. At this time, we are not completely sure who provided Plame's name to journalists. When it is known, who committed this crime, and if it meets the definition of espionage , I suggest the death penalty would be an appropriate sanction. I'm assuming the death penalty would not be applied unless there is a fair trial. The death penalty would have the advantage of discouraging this type of behavior in the future.
Liberals have a reputation for being soft on crime, this would be a good opportunity for us to show that we can be firm when the situation dictates.
