David Brooks, to some, has caught religion. I'm not convinced. His conversion is incomplete. He has caught on and fessed-up somewhat, however. Today, in
The Designated Hitter, he says,
Politics is a team sport. Nobody can get anything done alone. But in today's Washington, loyalty to the team displaces loyalty to the truth. Loyalty to the team explains why President Bush doesn't fire people who serve him poorly, and why, as a result, his policies are often not well executed.
And then, in an effort to achieve some kind of Byzantine symmetry, he says that Howard Dean is merely the Democratic equivalent to Tom DeLay.
Say whatever you want about Brooks, he's not stupid. So at the end of the day, if it seems he just doesn't get it, it must be because he's been bought.
