At the end of yesterday's Meet The Press, Russert showed Dean a clip of the Buffalo Bills beating the New England Patriots 31-0, then tried to get Dean to say that the Bills were better than the Patriots. Dean laughed it off, saying that he was a Patriots fan but an `AFC guy', and had rooted for the Bills when they were in the Super Bowl.
What Dean should have said was...
That game occurred in week 1 of the season, and at that point, it looked like the Bills were a superior team to the Patriots. But the football season, like the primary season, is not won and lost in the first week. During the course of the season, the Patriots improved and demonstrated that they were the best all-around team, while the weaknesses of the Bills were repeatedly exposed.
In the same way, John Kerry looked very strong coming out of the 'week 1' Iowa primary. But there is a lot of primary season left, and I believe that the next few weeks will expose John Kerry's weaknesses and give me the opportunity to show that I am the strongest candidate.
