I've been thinking about writing this for a while. While I am not sure if it is `diary' worthy I thought I could throw it out there and let the community decide.
There are many reasons I visit dKos on a regular basis. I am surprised, however, at how little we take advantage of the sheer numbers (now approaching 100,000) to be an idea factory. So I write this with the intention of soliciting ideas for an action plan to respond to a future attack from the wingers.
One of the more ridiculous GOP talking points is that the lack of any terrorist attack in the U.S. can be attributed to Bush's greatness in defending the country. Well, if we know anything about al-Qaeda we know they are patient. All you have to do is look at the eight years between attacks on the WTC. [aside: have a little fun with your favorite winger by asking them to explain how why this gap was so long during the `lax' Clinton administration]
Democrats are set to make gains or even assume control of the House and Senate in 2006 and 2008. What will our response be if/when the U.S. suffers another terrorist attack following these elections? It will be dishonest, shameful, disgusting, and revolting, but you know what the wingnuts in the corporate media and talk radio will be saying:
You elected Democrats and look what happened. This just goes to prove that Democrats cannot be trusted to keep our nation safe. If Republicans were still in control we would not have been attacked again.
We need to devise a plan NOW so we are ready when it happens. Many dKos members are quite adept at writing letters to the editor and/or calling local talk shows. What else can we do? Now is the time to generate ideas so we can have a plan in place.
