I have read
Kos's diary about core democratic values, and I think he and all the posters were on the right track, but got sidelined.
Instead of thinking about all encompassing, overriding values that apply to democratic positions, the ideas became a litany of specific values attached to specific issues.
I have been thinking about framing the values concept for months. I keep coming back to these three.
Honesty, Fairness, and Accountability for All
They are very basic, can be applied to every issue, are easy to remember, and roll off the tongue,
like they ought to part of a democratic pledge of allegiance.
We pledge allegiance to the American people. To be Fair and Honest and Accountable to every American, and to stand for these values in everything we say and do.
If every democratic politician had to sign that oath, and was held to it, maybe things would be a little different in the US of A.
