Keep in mind this is just San Francisco. Similar surveillance equipment has been installed in New York, LA, San Diego, Seattle and other major metropolitan areas. I know some will say "this is the price we pay to prevent losing the Bay Bridge to terrorists", but this is just SO over the top.
I sincerely doubt the carriers whose communications have been compromised are aware of this surveillance. And if they are, they certainly haven't been forthcoming with us.
