Since the Iowa surprise, I've heard a certain number of Dean supporters considering throwing their weight to another candidate. Most often it is Edwards or Clark who is mentioned as a palatable alternative. Now I know that many of you plan to stick with Dean, so this is not directed at you, but for those considering Edwards, I'm wondering how you reconcile yourselves to these three points:
--Edwards voted for the Patriot Act, and against all four of Russ Feingold's amendments that would have strengthened civil rights protections in the legislation; there's also been suggestion that he helped author part of the Act with Bob Graham, although this is in dispute
--Edwards voted for the Use of Force resolution but would not support the $87 billion supplemental (completely the reverse of Dean)
--Edwards supports the unproven and extraordinarily wasteful National Missile Defense shield, and has vowed not to make any cuts to the Pentagon budget (Clark and Dean have both criticized current missile defense and have offered to deprioritize or rethink it entirely; Clark is the only major candidate to suggest making necessary cuts to the Pentagon budget)
