Before we start congratulating ourselves too much on how Bush's "Tough on Terror" image is unravelling, consider this:
"Do you think Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon?"
Yes | 36% |
No | 47% |
Don't Know | 17% |
CBS News Poll, March 30-April 1, 2004. N=1,024 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3 (total sample).
So that gives a sobering reality check:
53% (=36%+17%) of American adults believe Saddam could have been directly involved in 9/11
It's sometimes hard to remember, when you're so immersed with all these like-minded people on dailykos, that the average voter lives in such a different world.
Why are the 527s not running ads hammering home just one simple message again and again: SADDAM HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11... SADDAM HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11... SADDAM HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11... Wouldn't that be the most cost-effective of all messages?
