On the Ed Schultz Show (who should be part of the AAR lineup) recently, Mr. Schultz talked about a southern woman he met recently who said she would always vote for Bush because "he's a Christian man."
My first thought in response: Is Kerry not a Christian?
My second thought: God, that means that no Jew or Muslim or anyone of another faith will ever be elected President in this country.
My third thought: Is Bush really a Christian???
My thoughts on this and I would appreciate hearing yours as well:
George W. Bush wears his religion on his sleeve. He is forever the great fraternity boy glad-handing and smoozing with the faithful. He has learned well the words to use to pull at the heartstrings of his listeners, but seldom follows through on what appear to be his good intentions. He came into office promising that he would unit, but has at every turn divided the people so that if anything we are more divided than ever.
He meets with people in the field and praises their programs and then his budgets cut those same programs he has praised. His administration talks about scientific based research, but consistently ignores it if it is not politically correct. He denies global warming for example. He constantly seeks accountability in others, but ignores it when the White House is asked to account for its actions.
He talks about honest political campaigns, but generally runs with a smile on his face some of the most viciously and inaccurate campaigns in history . He is quick to distort facts and to use language that is purposely designed to inflame rather than to heal.
His programs are carefully crafted by linguists to appeal to the people and often his actions are the opposite of his words. Clean Skies, Health Forest, and low cost drug programs are only a few of the ways the language is manipulated.
His true soul mate is Grover Norquest who recently was quoted to the effect that his dream of massive deficits was coming true and that now we could eliminate much of the domestic federal part of the government and spend primarily on the defense department.
He is running a campaign on steady leadership, but his record is one of constant changes to meet the political needs of his base groups.
He talks about his own misspent youth, up to age forty or so, and then his dramatic change when he was born again, but he does not forgive others for their failings. Unless of course it was his buddy Kenny Boy . He says he is a born again Christian, but I see little compassion or forgiveness in either his personal or public life. He approved the execution of 152 people in Texas and seems to be more proud of that record than to admit he might have had some misgivings with respect to the guilt of anyone on the Texas death row. Scientific statistics indicate the high probability that at least nine of these executions were wrong or at least questionable.
The dilemma for the citizens of the USA is that George W. Bush has led them down a primrose path that has great implications for the world. His personal and national arrogance has alienated many that were and should still be our friends. It is unlikely that the USA alone can dig us out of the hole George W has dug.
I no longer believe that right or wrong I owe my allegiance to this great country. The wrong headed policies of the Bush administration cry for opposition and redress.
We must look for the root causes of problems in the world.
We must develop effective programs that counter the hate against the modern world.
We must create in the world a hope for all of the young people of the world.
We must ban together with others to resolve the tragic events in the world.
That we have the might to overpower does not make it right ,,, for in the long run we will fail.

Bush's words have not met action. Indeed, his words deceive us of his action.
Bush travels from community to community in pseudo-presidential/campagain visits where he is photographed and filmed meeting with various organizations, workers, Senior Citizens, teachers, students, Union Members, Church leaders, and healtcare workers, and he praises their programs; but then his budgets cut those same programs he has praised.

We are all aware of the Bush Flip Flop list. It is much more than a List. The whole essence of the administration, and the whole essence of Bush, the man himself, is a flip flop. A deception. A contradiction.
Bush often talks of his misspent youth, which by the way lasted into his forties, and then he talks about his decision to quit drinking and to become born again so as to engender forgiveness for his crimes in his youth (AWOL, Alcoholism, Drug Use, Abortion), but he does not forgive others for their failings. Unless of course it you contribute money to his campaign or you own a billion dollar oil or energy company.
He says he is a born again Christian, but I see little compassion or forgiveness in either his personal or public life. He approved the execution of hundreds of people in Texas, laughed about a plea for mercy by one of the inmates to Tucker Carlson, and seems to be more proud of his execution record than to admit he might have had some misgivings with respect to the guilt of anyone on the Texas death row.
So, is Bush a Christian? Catholics like myself believe that the test of faith comes through your deeds instead of what you say. The old familiar cliche Actions speak louder than words. Based on that cliche alone, you can say that Bush is not a Christian because he talks a good game, but does not follow through with action. However it is much worse than that. Bush talks a good game in order to deceive us, and then does the opposite.
That is a lie.
So not only is Bush not a Christian, he is evil. He is a false witness.
