Today at 3 P.M. (EsT) I will be joining the students at Princeton University in their grassroots movement to protect the minority right of the filibuster in the United States Senate.
One hundred and sixty-seven hours ago, the group began what was originally intended to be two distinct 12-hour filibusters in front of the William ("Bill") Frist Campus Center. As you know it has been the grassroots--through letters to the editor, rallies sponsored by MoveOn, and events like this--leading the fight against Republican attempts to trample the separation of powers and checks and balances that guarantee the minority's right to dissent.
The fight continues today, and I am honored that the students asked my campaign, a grassroots movement like theirs, to speak for an hour this afternoon.

Update [2005-5-3 14:52:14 by Chuck Pennacchio for US Senate]: From Tim (ttagaris): I am at the event, just got here a few minutes ago, Chuck is on his way. The students are gathered, about 30 solid right now, and more are making their way here. Television crews are setting up their cameras as the weather has begun to chill and a cloud cover has formed overhead.
Rain or shine, the filibuster goes on, a sign says.
Organizers understand that Republicans are mounting a "counter rally," since they found out that MSNBC would be filming. I'll keep you updated.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to the campaign so far today. I have your comments printed out and in my bag, ready for Chuck to read. He will probably speak for about 20 minutes, and get through as many of your comments as he can. I'll keep you updated. -- Tim
------------------------------------------------
When I am elected to the United States Senate, I will always serve as voice for the people. Today, as the country looks toward Princeton University, I will be your voice for the nation.
I intend to spend my hour two ways:
1.) Answering your questions.
2.) Reading your "floor statements."
In the comments, or via email (info@chuck2006.com), feel free to ask about the campaign, the current right-wing power grab, or whatever else is on your mind. I will answer as many as I can during the hour I am slotted to speak.
Also, submit your comments, either here, or via email, and I will read them aloud. I will be your voice. Please keep them around one minute maximum as I want to get in as many as I can.
Tim will be "live-blogging" the event here, and on our own campaign blog. Please link your websites and blogs to ours: http://www.chuck2006.com
You can also watch a video stream that has been set up. The link for that is HERE.
I look forward to answering your questions and reading your comments at the Frist Filibuster.
Yours in solidarity,
Chuck
