After the media exposees of "Brownie" and the other crony appointments in FEMA revealed over the last few weeks added to the obviously industry-appointed Sectretaries of FDA, EPA, et al, I just scared the heck out of myself by wondering "Who HASN'T been exposed yet?"
Anybody remember George Tenet, John Ashcroft, and the other losers? Who else in the guts of our government, which CAN protect us from assault by terrorists or nature, was also a college roommate of a Pioneer? How clueless can these political appointees be and still accomplish their primary mission? BTW, that primary mission is NOT to "get the Republican annointed elected again."
The primary mission is to protect and serve their countrymen, even the ones who would never vote for their party. Even the ones who will never belong to the same clubs, churches, synagogues, "social circle," college alumni associations, or fraternities. Even the "others." People they are not comfortable socializing with and have nothing in common with.
How many of these "albatrosses" are preventing our government from accomplishing it's job? If they follow the Grover Norquist mantra, then THEY DON'T CARE IF IT WORKS OR NOT. If it does work, it's because of their brilliant stewardship. If it fails, then it's another evidentiary example of the failure of Big Government. Either way, it looks good on their resumes when they go through the revolving door to K Street and 6 figure retainers.
The most urgent questions I have are these:
- How badly is the body politic of the government hurt?
- Can it be restored?
- How can we possibly attract new talent to fill the positions vacated by career employees who just got fed up or were forced out of their positions?
Any ideas or thoughts on this? Can we get the Kososphere working on a list of likely embarrasments and at least cut down on the bird population in the management roles at various departments? Anyone wiling to take this on?
