The Bush Justice Department, in what seems to be an attempt to ensure that the Republican party never receives another black vote, has informed Southern Illinois University that it has to get rid of a small fellowship program that
targets minority and women students.
More on the flip.
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Federal prosecutors are threatening to sue Southern Illinois University over three small graduate school scholarship programs aimed at women and minorities, saying they are discriminatory.
SIU "has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males," the Justice Department said in a letter.
Isn't this the kind of crap we expect from the Klan? Haven't we just wandered into David Duke/national Association for the Advancement of White People territory? And from the feds no less. Orval Faubus and Strom Thurmond must be rejoicing in hell right now.
Here's the kinds of fellowships we're dealing with here.
The programs, dubbed the Proactive Recruitment and Multicultural Professionals for Tomorrow fellowships and the Bridge to the Doctorate fellowships, are aimed at increasing enrollment of minorities in graduate programs where they are underrepresented. The Proactive program, begun in 2000, has aided 78 students, while the Bridge program, begun last year, has aided 24 students.
A third program, the Graduate Dean's fellowships, are for women and minorities who have overcome adverse social, cultural or economic conditions. It was started in 2000 and has aided 27 students.
A grand total of 129 non white-male students didn't get a chance to compete for these fellowships, and as a result, the Federal Justice Department is going to sue the university. Only in Bush's America.
