Sen Saxbe Chambliss (R-GA) has just explained to Wolf Blitzer on CNN that officials in UAE 'understand that we are in a political season. . . .'
WTF does that mean?
Think about it. It sounds to me that a reasonable expansion on this very pregnant statement is that:
The US has had to make a silly decision on the ports matter because we are stuck with this ridiculous facade of 'democracy' whereunder decision-makers are forced to cater to the opinions of <snicker>'the people'</snicker>. Some day, he and they realize, we will proceed to an enlightened form of government where 'the political season' - and all other 'political considerations', apparently - do not affect our decision-making and we will both recognize and implement the wisdom of turning major portions of our infrastructure over to organizations under the direct control of foreign governments. . . .
Does somebody see some other interpretation?
If anybody is curious, Blitzer - now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dubai since his exclusive access to their ports this week - found nothing exceptional in Saxbe's statement.
Since I have the floor (thank you, thank you), let me wonder here why none of the repuglicans has proposed that the US government establish a US-owned corporation to manage our ports and bid on contracts around the world? When exactly was it that the Goopers became advocates of socialist enterprise? IOKITANS? (It's okay if they are National Socialist?)
Is a puzzlement, no?
